Juneau Non-Motorized Transportation Plan
The City and Borough of Juneau adopted a new Non-Motorized Transportation Plan on November 2, 2009. The purpose of this Plan is to promote active transportation by guiding development of a community-wide bicycle and walking network that can be used by all Juneau residents for all types of trips. To accomplish this, a series of specific non-motorized infrastructure improvements are recommended and policies with implementing actions are identified.
As part of the planning process, five public meetings were held in December 2008. At these meetings, existing non-motorized routes, missing links, safety concerns and policy options were discussed. Nearly 100 people attended these meetings, and the public input received was used to prepare the Non-Motorized Transportation Plan.
Between May and Ocotober 2009, the planning team worked with borough staff, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission, the Planning and Zoning Commission, the Affordable Housing Commission, the Public Works and Facilities Committee, the Assembly and members of the public to finalized the plan.
